Las Cruces Friends of Chamber Music
“Musically Speaking”, 11/18/07
Hello, Friends!
It has really felt like Autumn these last few days, and I have been busily making lists related to grocery shopping and meal preparation for Turkey Day! I’m sure many of you are up to the same type of things. However, you know the adage “all work and no play….”, so I’d like to invite you to schedule a break from baking to attend Tuesday evening’s concert.
La Catrina String Quartet
Tuesday, November 20; 7:00 PM
San Albino Catholic Church
Featuring music by Mexican composers,as well as a composition by Franz Schubert.
Tickets $5 – Available in advance at White’s Music Box or the Cultural Center de Mesilla.
Tickets at the door starting at 6:15.
[Event co-sponsored by Basilica Endowment Fund of San Albino Roman Catholic Church; Border Book Festival, Inc.; and Las Cruces Friends of Chamber Music.]
The music will be extraordinary and the setting is glorious; the concert will not be overly lengthy, with time to greet the musicians and enjoy a piece of cake following the performance. Please plan to join us!
It would also be great if you could take a minute to help get the word out. We want to be sure to have a good turn-out! Would you be so kind as to forward this to any local friends and family that you think would be interesting in attending the concert? If you are one of those persons who receives this by way of a “forward”, you are not currently on our list nor do I have any way of knowing who you are. However, I would be glad to put you on our mailing list & include you in monthly E-mail up-dates from our organization Simply submit your contact information on our website, www.lascrucesfriendsofchambermusic.org, or respond to me at

The recent Saturday afternoon presentations at the Art Museum have been greatly enjoyed by appreciative audiences! The third, and final, in this series will be held next weekend, on November 24. Beginning with a brief chat in the Branigan Cultural Center at 1:15, and followed by a performance of avante-garde music in the gallery of the Art Museum at 2 PM. Other than the admission fee to the exhibit, there is no charge to attend the musical event.
Next up on our agenda? “Caniciones Navideñas/Songs of the Season” will be presented on Dec. 15. Featuring area vocalists, the program is being presented free of charge as a gift to the community, and should serve as an uplifting respite from the busyness of our holiday schedules. The performance will be in the Good Samaritan Auditorium at 7:00 PM. Doors will open at 6:20; plan to arrive early as seating is limited.
Wishing you all a healthy and happy Thanksgiving! We shall look forward to seeing many of you this Tuesday evening and in the weeks ahead.
Musically yours,
Barbara Toth
P.S. I started this morning with a cup of coffee on the patio and today’s Las Cruces Bulletin in hand. Make sure you see the wonderful feature article in their Arts and Entertainment section about our organization!! Thanks ever so much to Joel Courtney, reporter at the Bulletin!
