Las Cruces Friends of Chamber Music
“Musically Speaking”, 02/25/07

Hello, Friends!

I’ve just returned from our first-ever Chamber Ensemble Recital featuring local student musicians; and I feel like the evening was a real success! In recent weeks, 3 gifted Master Teachers volunteered their time to coach a dozen student groups, 5 of which played this evening. It was rewarding to hear the enthusiasm and musicianship that the young people brought to the performance, and we appreciate the participation of each and every one. We look forward to more opportunities in the future to encourage and support students in the art of performing in small musical ensembles. These young musicians represent the musical future of our community, and Las Cruces Friends of Chamber Music considers them an extremely worth-while investment!

Start planning now to attend our up-coming Every-Other-Tuesday at the Rio Grande performances: March 27, April 24 and May 22. The performances are at 5:30 PM and are free of charge. Exact details of each program will be available closer to the date of the performance. Also, we are finalizing dates and programs for some “Friday Night with Friends” concerts. And, of course, we are already hard at work on “From Russia with Love”, featuring the St. Petersburg Quartet as well as our collaboration with the Las Cruces Museum of Art, a concert of 20th century music to coincide with an exhibit of the artwork of Salvador Dali!

During the month of March, we will be focusing on strengthening our support systems: recruiting additional volunteers, soliciting financial partners, and securing additional funding through grants and/or corporations. Your help in one or more of these areas would be invaluable!

1) If you would be willing to consider volunteering in some capacity, please respond to this E-mail and I’ll pass your name and contact information on to our volunteer coordinator.

2) If you are able to help offset some of our financial expenses, please mail a check, made out to “Las Cruces Friends of Chamber Music” or “LCFCM” to 1230 Osage Court; Las Cruces, NM 88005. You might also check to see if your employer offers to match gifts to non-profit groups. Our affiliation with Doña Ana Arts Council, a 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization, makes financial gifts to our organization tax-deductible. All gifts will be acknowledged with a letter of receipt for tax purposes.

3) We would be grateful for the additional support of businesses in our community. If you know of businesses who might be willing to contribute financially to the work we are doing, please let me know and I will arrange to get a packet of information to them right away. Just one more thing: if you would be so kind as to send your mailing address and phone number, I’d like to fill in some of the blanks in our data base. Rest assured that your information will be used only for communication related to Las Cruces Friends of Chamber Music.

That’s all for now. Hope to see you on March 27!

Musically yours,
Barbara Toth
